This older novel by Liane Moriarty was published in 2009. Her later book, Big Little Lies, became a big hit when made into a series on HBO. There are similarities between the two books. The main character in each one is a female who just turned or is turning 40. Both women have 3 children and are very involved in their school. The setting is Sydney Australia and both stories have many other characters surrounding them. And Elvis, yes---THAT ELVIS, appears in one way or another in both books!
But, What Alice Forgot, is a story centered around memory loss. Alice hits her head at a gym and loses 10 years of her life. The last thing she remembers is being pregnant with her first child and happily married to her husband, Nick. She has a whole new life to learn to start with the 3 children she doesn't remember having or the fact that she is facing 40 years old.
Like the old song, What a Difference a Day Makes, Alice has had 10 years of days she doesn't remember. Alice's widowed mother is now married and she can't believe who she chose. Her children require her time and attention while still being complete strangers to her. Her happy marriage isn't how she left it and there is no longer a husband in the house. She has had a major loss in her life she doesn't remember. She has a really big school obligation she is the head of with no memory of the school (or, again the children). She has a beau plus a swimming pool in her back yard. The pool at least, was a nice surprise!
Food Alice remembered:
Tuna salad sandwich bar,
chips, soft cheeses and
crackers including cream
cheese and pepper jelly,
lemon meringue pie.

a competent start."---Dee Dee 👍🏼
