The Madonnas of Leningrad by Debra Dean

Moderator--Dee Dee

The Hermitage Museum plays a major part in this compelling novel about the seige of Leningrad during WWII.  The story centers around Marina, a tour guide for the museum at the time of the seige.  In her later years, she is afflicted by Alzheimers.  It's her memories of the museum and the war that she is left with.

Food included:
Блинчики картофеля (potato pancakes)
ЦЫПЛЕНОК Киев (chicken Kiev)
Лапша с капустой (noodles with cabbage)
зеленая фасоль (green beans) and
Черный российской торт (Black Russian cake)

"Eye-opening look at war and it's survivors."  Dee Dee

"Sadness of Alzheimers viewed through the family."  Polly
