The Help by Kathryn Stockett

 Moderator---Polly

Set in the 60's, this novel details the lives of black maids working in white households.  Jackson, Mississippi is a racially charged city in the deep South that clings to Jim Crow and segregation and also home to the story's characters. The book remains on the New York Times Bestseller's List and 'the chocolate pie' will stay in your memory long after the popularity of the novel fades.

Menu included:
Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy,
okra, black-eyed peas, biscuits and
MINNY'S CHOCOLATE PIE!

"Heartwarming look at the Southern 60's."  Polly

"A glimpse of pre-civil rights Mississippi."  Kathy
