The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

Moderator---Kim

For $400, name 6 words beginning with M that describe the plot of The Girl on the Train.  "Madness, mayhem, mystery, misogamy, messy and murder, Alex."

This novel is an alphabetical list of words that could be used when discussing it.  The author, Paula Hawkins, has managed to serve up an unlikable main character who annoys the reader plus a small list of others who, as we find out, are equally flawed.  And it works!

Rachel is the girl on the train who brings plenty of baggage and booze to the story.  She also sees something from her daily travels to and from London that puts her in the middle of a missing person's mystery. And it takes place just doors down from where Rachel used to live while married to her then husband Tom.

But how reliable is she?

This book is being compared to another recent novel, Gone Girl.  Yes, both have 'Girl' in the title and both spent a long time on the New York Times best-selling list.  Both were made into block-buster movies with The Girl on the Train opening today (10-07-16).  They are NOT the same story though.  You won't confuse the two.

Food:

Ice cream cones and cookies
plus a pot of English tea.

"Voyeurism, adultery, manipulation and gas lighting
make for a great mystery."---  Kim

"A train ride into terror (or fear)."---Shellie
