Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford

Moderator---Kim

The story travels between the 1940s and 1980s.  Henry is a young Chinese-American boy caught between the conflict of the Chinese and Japanese Americans.  While Henry wears a button claiming 'I am Chinese' his first love Keiko, a Japanese American, is sent off to an internment camp.  Seattle is the backdrop for the story along with the jazz of that era.

Food:

Shanghai beef, sesame chicken, egg rolls, crab Rangoon, rice, cherry almond cookies, fortune cookies, mints and cherry vanilla ice cream.

 "A bitter-sweet American story."---Kim

 "Torn between what's right and what's best."---Shellie
