Anne Perry and the Murder of the Century by Peter Graham

Moderator---Judy

Last book club, we read a murder mystery written by Anne Perry.  This time, we read the true story of the murder Anne Perry was involved in.  It was a surprise to our members (and that was Kathy's plan as to why we read an Anne Perry book first) that the author of the Victorian mystery had a past that rivaled her created characters.  In 1954 in Christchurch New Zealand, two teenage girls brutally bludgeoned one of their mothers to death.  A diary provided lots of insight into the girls and their thoughts and actions.  This account follows their personal histories, their trial, their incarceration and even gives the reader a glimpse of the two today.  The fact that author Anne Perry was a part of that notorious New Zealand crime wasn't known publicly until around 1989.  When later asked by the The Daily Mail did she ever think of her victim? "No," Perry said. "She was somebody I barely knew."

Crime Scene Snacks:
